When data packages are uploaded to the EDI Data Repository, they are first analyzed by a suite of quality checks that are used to report on certain aspects of metadata conformance to best practices as well as on the congruence between the metadata and the data. In early May, EDI added four new quality checks to its suite, bringing the total to thirty-six in all. A team comprised of EDI personnel and other data managers, called the EML Checker Working Group, oversees the design, implementation, and deployment of new and existing quality checks.
The EDI Data Repository, through its underlying PASTA+ web services API, now supports access to data package resource maps compliant with the Open Archives Initiative Object Reuse and Exchange (OAI-ORE) standard (https://www.openarchives.org/ore/). OAI-ORE defines standards for the description and exchange of aggregations of Web resources. A resource map can be accessed from the EDI Data Repository in OAI-ORE format by appending the string “?ore” to the standard web service URL used for accessing a data package resource map. For example, to access the OAI-ORE resource map for data package identifier edi.1.1, use the following URL: https://pasta.lternet.edu/package/eml/edi/1/1?ore. Additional information about interacting with EDI Data Repository resources using the PASTA+ web services API can be found here: http://pastaplus-core.readthedocs.io/en/latest/index.html.
